Adventures of a Reluctant Seeker is a collection of the exotic and humorous personal experiences of Lakshmi Collins. It begins in 1973 with her first trip to India, to visit her cousin at an ashram. Intending to stay for 2 weeks, she spent almost ten years with Swami Muktananda (the Guru of Elizabeth Gilbert's Guru in Eat, Pray, Love).
She was a young, free spirited hippie who reluctantly came to appreciate the experiential teaching techniques of Eastern Masters. The book ends with her equally culture shocked return to Western life after Muktananda's death in 1982. The nonfiction narrative of the book emotionally grabs its readers, weaving through profound human issues while sharing multi-cultural experiences through the eyes of a young woman.
Anyone who has an interest in travel, Eastern culture, or spiritual paths will appreciate the detailed descriptions of a timeless journey. It will also appeal to anyone who likes to laugh out loud while they read. Lakshmi's spiritual path was never boring and sometimes bordered on slapstick comedy. And it's not over yet.
