As a young child of ten, Robert Thomasson was struggling in school and was coping with anxiety. It was at this time that he became interested in poetry. He started connecting to its beauty and depth, and escaped into verse as his father recited to him passages from The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyam. His sister, an English Literature major, shared poets and their works with him as well. It was at this point that Robert needed an outlet for his thoughts and feelings and started writing his own poetry. He occasionally published his work in local papers under assumed names. The act of writing poetry gave him a creative outlet to utilize his love of the written word. He turned that passion into a long career as an educator. Robert added photography to his poetic works along the way because he believes that every photo is, in its own way, poetry for the eyes. From classic forms to free verse, this sampling, accompanied by his original photography, demonstrates how Robert Thomasson has found his niche as an author and a photographer in the creative world of written words and images.
