Air Service Boys Over The Rhine: Or Fighting Above The Clouds is a novel by Charles Amory Beach, published in 1919. The book is set during World War I and follows the adventures of a group of American pilots who are sent to the Western Front in France to fight against the Germans. The main characters are Tom Raymond, Jack Parmly, and Harry Leroy, who are all members of the Air Service, the precursor to the United States Air Force. The story begins with the Air Service Boys arriving in France and being assigned to a squadron that is based near the Rhine River. The boys quickly become involved in the war effort, flying dangerous missions over enemy lines and engaging in dogfights with German planes. Along the way, they make friends with other pilots, as well as with French civilians who are living under German occupation. As the war progresses, the Air Service Boys face increasingly difficult challenges, including bad weather, mechanical problems with their planes, and the constant threat of enemy fire. But they also experience moments of triumph, such as when they shoot down German planes or successfully complete a difficult mission.Throughout the book, Beach provides vivid descriptions of aerial combat and the harsh realities of war. He also highlights the camaraderie and bravery of the Air Service Boys, as well as the sacrifices they make for their country. Overall, Air Service Boys Over The Rhine: Or Fighting Above The Clouds is a thrilling adventure story that captures the excitement and danger of early aviation and the heroism of those who fought in World War I.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
