Alphonse Daudet's novel Tartarin On The Alps tells the story of Tartarin, a larger-than-life character from southern France who is known for his exaggerated tales of adventure and bravery. In this book, Tartarin decides to leave his hometown of Tarascon and travel to the Alps to hunt chamois, a type of mountain goat. Along the way, he meets a variety of characters, including a group of English tourists, a Swiss guide, and a group of Italian brigands. As he embarks on his quest, Tartarin's bravado is put to the test, and he must confront his own limitations and fears. The novel is a humorous satire on the romanticized idea of adventure and heroism, and it pokes fun at the exaggerated tales that were popular in the late 19th century. Through Tartarin's misadventures, Daudet explores themes of identity, masculinity, and the human desire for excitement and adventure. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
