Anna the Prophetess: The Woman Who Waited for Jesus
Long before the shepherds and wise men, an elderly woman named Anna quietly prayed inside God's temple. Day and night she fasted, worshiped, and waited-listening for the voice of the Lord.
When Mary and Joseph arrived with baby Jesus, Anna's eyes were opened by the Holy Spirit. She knew at once that this was the promised Savior! Lifting her voice, she thanked God and told everyone around her that redemption had come.
Anna wasn't called a prophetess because she predicted the future. She was called one because she heard God's truth and spoke it. Prophets in the Bible were people who walked closely with God-so closely that when He revealed something to them, they shared it faithfully. Anna's heart was so full of prayer and worship that she could recognize what God was doing when others could not. That's what made her prophetic: she saw what Heaven saw.
Through Anna's story, children learn that God still speaks through His Word, that He delights in those who listen, and that He keeps every promise in His perfect time.
