Charles G. Leland's Aradia, or the Gospel of the Witches is one of the most influential and controversial texts in the modern history of witchcraft, folklore, paganism, and occult religion.

First published in 1899, Aradia presents what Leland believed to be a surviving body of Italian witchcraft tradition centred on the goddess Diana and her daughter Aradia. Drawing on material he said was supplied by an Italian informant, often identified as Maddalena, Leland offered the book as a record of rites, myths, charms, invocations, and beliefs connected with a hidden witch tradition in Tuscany. Whether read as folklore, esoteric religion, literary reconstruction, or disputed ethnographic evidence, the book has remained impossible to ignore.
