Hakob Melik Hakobian, better known by his pen name Raffi, is a renowned Armenian author born in 1835 in Payajouk, an Armenian village situated in the Salmas province (presently in the north of Iran, near Urmia Lake) in Persia. He died in 1888 in Tiflis (present-day Tbilisi). Raffi is a prominent figure of Armenian literature. Րաֆֆի (Հակոբ Մելիք-Հակոբյան) - նշանավոր հայ գրող, հրապարակախոս, հասարակական գործիչ։ Ծնվել է Պարսկաստանի Սալմաստ գավառի Փայաջուկ գյուղում։ Նախնական կրթությունն ստացել է տեղի ծխական ուսումնարանում։ Հետագայում՝ 1847-ին, մեկնել է Թիֆլիս, ուսանել Կարապետ Բելախյանցի դպրոցում Այնուհետև ուսանել է ռուսական պետական գիմնազիայում ։ Խորապես կապված ազգային մշակույթի ավանդույթների հետ Րաֆֆին հայ գրականությունը մերձեցրեց ժամանակի համաշխարհային գրականության չափանիշներին։ Նա գեղարվեստական խոսքի նորարար է, ով որակական նոր աստիճանի բարձրացրեց հայ արձակը՝ մշակելով վեպի, վիպակի, պատմվածքի, նամականիի և ուղեգրության ընտիր նմուշներ։
