Between Scarlet Thrones is a historical fiction novel written by Florence Willingham Pickard and published in 1919. The book is set in 16th century England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I and follows the story of a young woman named Anne Boleyn who becomes entangled in the political and romantic struggles of the court. The novel begins with Anne's arrival at court as a lady-in-waiting to Queen Catherine of Aragon. Anne is immediately noticed by the King, Henry VIII, who is seeking a way to annul his marriage to Catherine and marry Anne instead. As Anne navigates the dangerous court politics and relationships, she becomes increasingly drawn to the charismatic and ambitious Henry. However, Anne's rise to power and eventual marriage to Henry is not without its challenges. She must contend with the machinations of other courtiers, including her own sister Mary, as well as the growing opposition to Henry's break with the Catholic Church. The novel also explores Anne's relationships with her family, including her father and brother, as well as her own personal struggles with love and loyalty.Overall, Between Scarlet Thrones is a gripping historical novel that offers a vivid and detailed portrayal of life at the Tudor court. It is a must-read for fans of historical fiction, particularly those interested in the tumultuous reign of Henry VIII and the rise and fall of Anne Boleyn. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
