In The Book of Tea, Kakuzō Okakura presents the tea ceremony (chanoyu) not merely as a ritualised practice, but as a refined expression of Japanese art, ethics, and perception. Written in English for a Western audience at the beginning of the twentieth century, the work seeks to articulate the principles underlying tea culture, including simplicity, restraint, harmony, and the appreciation of impermanence.
