Both Sides of the Street is a novel written by Mary Spring Walker, originally published in 1870. The story follows the lives of two sisters, Ellen and Kate, who grow up in very different circumstances. Ellen is raised in poverty, while Kate is raised in wealth and luxury. Despite their different upbringings, the sisters remain close and support each other throughout their lives. As the story progresses, Ellen falls in love with a young man named Frank, who is also from a poor background. Their relationship is complicated by the fact that Frank is involved in criminal activities. Meanwhile, Kate falls in love with a wealthy man named Arthur, but their relationship is threatened by his mother's disapproval. The novel explores themes of class, love, and morality. It portrays the struggles of individuals from different social classes and the challenges they face in pursuing their dreams and desires. Both Sides of the Street is a compelling and thought-provoking read that offers insight into the social and cultural norms of the Victorian era. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
