Buildings of the Doric Order is a comprehensive guide to the architectural style of the ancient Greeks, written by T. Roger Smith. The Doric Order is one of the three classical orders of architecture, characterized by its simple, sturdy columns and lack of ornamentation. In this book, Smith explores the history and development of the Doric Order, from its origins in ancient Greece to its influence on later architectural styles. He examines the key features of Doric buildings, including the proportions of the columns, the use of triglyphs and metopes, and the design of the entablature. The book includes detailed illustrations and photographs of Doric buildings from around the world, including the Parthenon in Athens, the Temple of Apollo at Delphi, and the Pantheon in Rome. Smith also discusses the cultural and social significance of Doric architecture, and its enduring legacy in modern design. This book is an essential resource for anyone interested in the history of architecture, classical studies, or the art and culture of ancient Greece.THIS 26 PAGE ARTICLE WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE BOOK: Greek Architecture and Greek Sculpture, by T.
