My husband, Lee and I once shared a devotion to peace and environmentalism, but these commonalities only offered a modicum of stability. Our marriage eventually became a fragile truce, then a battle for respect. I was forced to fight for my separate identity. Our relationship reopened emotional wounds from the past. Looking for love outside myself resembled a trap. Love had to come from within.
In this creative memoir, I reflect on both tender and painful scenes as I attempted to heal and change the trajectory of my life. Deciphering what growth is possible within my many relationships pushed me to consider what I would actually be willing to accept.
I explored various avenues of self-healing and took many errant steps on this journey of learning to love myself.
