The story centers on a relentless infestation of bed bugs who invade a home, driven by a singular desire to consume the inhabitants. These bugs exhibit an unnerving sentience, chanting nightly and expressing a disturbing hunger for human blood, which they view as a delicacy. Their persistence is portrayed as formidable, capable of withstanding deterrents like bug spray. The conflict escalates dramatically when Turner Happity, one of the human inhabitants, undergoes a terrifying transformation, becoming a bed bug himself at night. In this new form, he wanders the sewers, seeking fabric to hide within and to launch his attacks. His predatory behavior continues until he is confronted and ultimately killed by a local hero named Dusky Dunn. Upon his death, Turner reverts to his human form, marking the resolution of his personal ordeal and the end of the immediate threat.
