A Critical Review Of A Work By J. S. Backus: Entitled Universalism Another Gospel Or J. M. Austin Vs. The Bible (1849) is a book written by John Mather Austin. The book is a detailed critique of a work by J. S. Backus, titled Universalism Another Gospel. In his critique, Austin argues against the ideas presented by Backus and defends the Bible as the only true source of religious truth. The book was originally published in 1849 and is considered an important work in the history of American religious thought. It reflects the ongoing debate between Universalists and traditional Christians in the 19th century. Austin's critique is based on a close reading of Backus's work and includes detailed analysis of the arguments presented in it. The book is divided into several chapters, each of which focuses on a different aspect of Backus's work. Austin examines the theological and philosophical underpinnings of Universalism, and argues that it is incompatible with the teachings of the Bible. He also discusses the historical context in which Universalism emerged and the reasons why it gained popularity in certain circles. Overall, A Critical Review Of A Work By J. S. Backus: Entitled Universalism Another Gospel Or J. M. Austin Vs. The Bible (1849) is a rigorous and thoughtful critique of Universalism. It offers a valuable perspective on the ongoing debate between Universalists and traditional Christians in the 19th century, and remains relevant to discussions about religion and theology today.Being An Exposition Of Its Uncandid Spirit, And Erroneous Applications Of Scripture. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
