The term dementia encompasses a range of brain diseases that usually lead to a progressive impairment of mental performance.
A distinction is made between Alzheimer's dementia and vascular dementia, which is based on circulatory disorders. Mixed forms also occur.

The most important symptoms of dementia in cats are disorientation, forgetfulness, behavioral changes, mood swings, neurological deficits, house soiling, and, in the late stages, urinary and fecal incontinence.

The causes of dementia include age, circulatory disorders, head injuries, metabolic disorders, improper feeding, hormonal changes, tumors, strokes, hereditary factors, liver or kidney failure, and high blood pressure.

The cause of Alzheimer's dementia is the death of nerve cells and the loss of existing connections between them. Protein deposits, called plaques, form in the nerve cells and their spaces. These disrupt metabolism and nerve connections.

What helps us humans can also be successfully used in animals. Anyone who wants to help their cat with dementia without chemicals and potential side effects should therefore try homeopathy and Schüssler salts. Both therapies activate blood circulation, metabolism, and the animal's self-healing powers, restoring balance.
