The idea behind this book was to take a close look at the illness from which the Democratic Republic of Congo suffers in its democratic system, which it has elected as its mode of management and governance, and to see if there is any hope of curing its pathology. The complaints and laments are unanimous, coming from almost every social class in the DRC, political parties, civil society in all its diversity and so on. They form a clamor that heralds the worst that Congolese society's democracy will suffer at the hands of those in power. In this book, we aim to establish the gap that exists between the prescriptions of democracy stipulated in the constitution that governs the D.R.C. and the applicability of democracy by those in power. Façade democracy describes a political regime that gives the illusion of being democratic, while concealing real power concentrated in the hands of hidden decision-makers.
