The amount of digital media - such as images - continues to grow, not least due to the increased use of smartphones. This also increases the effort required by users to find specific content. This thesis therefore shows how smart features can be used to facilitate the search for files in cloud storage. The basis for this is the automated extraction of metadata and its efficient storage. The main focus is on the development of a prototype system for the OX Drive cloud storage system from Open-Xchange. In addition to examining existing smart features in the field of cloud storage, the thesis primarily analyses possible methods for extracting metadata. It also compares the two document-oriented databases Elasticsearch and Solr. In addition, the thesis discusses the implications of such a system with regard to user privacy.
