Don Quixote of the Mancha is a classic novel written by Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes. The book is part of the Harvard Classics collection and is the fourteenth volume in the series. The story follows the adventures of a man named Alonso Quixano, who becomes so enamored with tales of chivalry that he sets out on a quest to become a knight-errant himself. He renames himself Don Quixote and sets out on a series of adventures with his loyal squire, Sancho Panza. Along the way, he encounters various characters, both real and imaginary, and becomes embroiled in a series of comical and often absurd situations. The novel is a satire of the romanticized ideals of chivalry and is considered one of the greatest works of Spanish literature. This edition of the book includes an introduction by Harvard professor William Allan Neilson and illustrations by Gustave Dor�����.1909. Edited by Charles W. Eliot. Contents: The First Part of the Delightful History of the Most Ingenious Knight. The present volume contains the whole of the first part of the novel, which is complete in itself. The second part, issued in 1615, the year before his death, is of a nature of a sequel, and is generally regarded as inferior. In writing his great novel, Cervantes set out to parody the romances of chivalry. With reference to the fiction of the Middle Ages, it is a triumphant satire; with reference to modern novels, it is the first and the most widely enjoyed.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
