The Doom of King Acrisius is a book written by William Morris. It is a retelling of the ancient Greek myth of Perseus and the Gorgon Medusa. The story follows King Acrisius, who is told by an oracle that his grandson will kill him. In an effort to prevent this prophecy from coming true, Acrisius locks his daughter Danae in a tower. However, Zeus visits Danae in the form of a golden shower and impregnates her with Perseus. When Acrisius discovers the child, he casts Danae and Perseus out to sea. The two are eventually rescued by a fisherman and brought to the island of Seriphos. As Perseus grows up, he learns of his destiny to kill his grandfather and sets out on a quest to do so. Along the way, he encounters the Gorgon Medusa, whose gaze turns people to stone. With the help of the gods and magical tools, Perseus is able to defeat Medusa and ultimately fulfill the prophecy by accidentally killing Acrisius during a sporting event.
