In 1943, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Erwin Schrödinger delivered a series of lectures at Trinity College Dublin, aiming to explore the physical basis of life. These were later compiled into a book. A young man named Watson read it, found profound inspiration, and decided to shift his research focus. In 1962, he won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. That book was What Is Life?. In 1991, upon reading it, the British physicist Roger Penrose-often mentioned in the same breath as Stephen Hawking-remarked that this book was well worth reading and rereading.
In 1956, Schrödinger gave another series of lectures, this time at Trinity College Cambridge, discussing topics such as the material basis of consciousness, whether mind has an evolutionary direction, the relationship between science and religion, and the mystery of perception. These were later published as Mind and Matter. To this day, the ideas discussed in the book continue to inspire leading thinkers and biologists around the world...
