Judith Miller is a poet who has lived many lives and crossed many thresholds. A scholar devoted to the study of Spanish Language and Literature, she has traveled the world and lived for years in Mexico. Yet, despite her sophistication, she claims her home region in the Midwest as the primary inspiration shaping her life and poetry. She says it is the green of her beloved Driftless region in southeastern Minnesota that brings her back to her true self. It is in the 'woods' where I find answers to the 'whys and worries' I experience day to day, she says in the introduction to her collected poetry titled Emergings Out of the Woods. Her collection spans the entire spectrum of being human -- from loss and becoming, to a child's memories, and to her deep relationships with dogs who have been her friends. But it is in her nature poetry that we hear her heart truly begin to sing. Her poetic sections inspired by the seasons, and the woodlands, prairies, and wetlands of Minnesota draw the reader into her greatest depths of beauty.
