The bridge between the twin worlds of Dyall's Ford and Animarl falls silent. Animarlian sorcerer Argilan, convinced time itself is ending, abandons his quest to draw the Key from Dyall's Ford and so restore the bridge.
The sorcerer also refuses to help dragon-man Linden Wilder reclaim the evil Margundor Jewels from his demented brother Barto, who is using them to devastate Animarl.
When Wilder sets out alone to destroy the Jewels, Barto slaughters everyone dear to him, and Linden finds himself fighting an entire world turned to wickedness, a world trapped in time and spiralling ever faster inward to its endpoint.
I know not how long we travelled. It felt both momentary and eternal together, a foul sequence of events endlessly repeating, such that I was trapped in what the ancients called Forever's Midnight, a time-place of ceaseless dark and despair and fright.

Eternity's Midnight is Book Four of the dark fantasy novel series, The Land Inside Time, where post-apocalyptic survival collides with ancient and dangerous magic. Book One, The Shattering, concerns the dystopian state of Dyall's Ford, an Australian country town, and the appearance of a dragon there. Book Two, Under Dragon Sails, switches to Earth's otherworld of Animarl - itself undergoing upheavals - and tells the origin story of the dragon in Book One. Book Three, The Swarm continues the saga of Captain Linden Foxbright Wilder's quest for a cure and the terrifying transformation involved.
