The Favor of Kings, written by Mary Hastings Bradley and published in 1912, is a historical fiction novel set in the 16th century. The story follows the life of Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII of England, and her rise to power at court. The novel begins with Anne's early years as a young girl living in the English countryside, where she develops a close friendship with her cousin, Mary. As Anne grows older, she becomes increasingly aware of the political and social climate of the Tudor court, and begins to see her own potential for power and influence.Anne's ambitions lead her to catch the eye of King Henry VIII, who is already married to Catherine of Aragon. Anne becomes determined to become the king's wife, and uses her wit and charm to win him over. As their relationship develops, Anne becomes more and more confident in her ability to manipulate those around her, including the king himself. However, Anne's rise to power is not without its challenges. She faces opposition from the powerful factions at court, as well as from her own family members. As Anne becomes more and more entrenched in the world of court politics, she must navigate a dangerous web of alliances and betrayals in order to maintain her position.Ultimately, The Favor of Kings is a compelling portrait of one of the most fascinating and controversial figures in English history. Through Anne's story, Bradley explores themes of ambition, power, and the complex relationships between men and women in a world where politics and personal relationships were often intertwined. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
