As of this publication date, only about 30 of the remaining fire towers still exist on public lands in the Catskill and Adirondack preserves. All 30 have trails, open to the public, to reach the summits and the existing fire towers. So you may want to climb only one of these mountains as a curiosity, and possibly even climb the actual fire tower if it is open.
