Merlot Glasswing survives a traumatic incident and awakens on a riverbank. While he learns to cope with his losses, a strange phenomenon occurs; he can create insects from his imagination. These creatures arise against his own will.
One night, a cascade of fireflies that he had created leads him to a temple behind his home. To his surprise, people who eerily resemble him walk out of the darkness and notice him. Soon, they form bonds with each other, and they must stop the fight between a mysterious man and Merlot's undead uncle.
He will soon learn that everyone has different views of reality. This begs the question of what is real and what is false.
