Le 20 août 2002, je quitte Le Puy-en-Velay avec un sac à dos et un hamac, pour parcourir à pied 250 km jusqu'à Saint-Jean-du-Gard, sur les traces de l'écrivain voyageur R. L. Stevenson.
Un récit d'aventure à la belle étoile, au rythme des bivouacs, à la lisière d'une modernité dont certains aspects, vus depuis les chemins du réel, révèlent toute leur futilité.
Un voyage intérieur, sur les sentiers de notre âme, à la découverte de petits bonheurs simples et accessibles, là où l'esprit arrive et coule sur le chemin comme la rivière dans son lit, léger comme un vagabond. Ce récit de voyage nous emmène sur les 250km du GR70, chemin Stevenson, qui traverse le Massif Central du Velay jusqu'aux Cévennes. Une carte du chemin a été ajoutée en début d'ouvrage, avec les points d'intérêts et les lieux de bivouac présents dans le récit. Tout au long de son périple, Ludovic Rocca, l'auteur-voyageur, nous fait vivre une aventure en totale liberté, traversant à pied des paysages grandioses et établissant son bivouac dans des lieux parfois improbables. Il rencontre sur son chemin les habitants d'une France rurale qui lui renvoient le reflet de sa propre condition de citadin. Les thèmes abordés sont ceux de la liberté, de l'aventure, de l'évasion, l'idée de partir en solo sans contraintes et de quitter un mode de vie urbain.
L'auteur apporte sa vision contemplative et poétique sur la nature et se livre à quelques reflexions philosophiques.
La pratique du bivouac est développée tout au long du récit, avec l'utilisation du hamac notamment, suspendu ou simplement disposé au sol. Ce roman n'est pas un guide de randonnée, mais plutôt un récit littéraire sur la marche en solo et l'évasion en pleine nature.
