Avant de lire ce livre, tu as sûrement déjà eu des élans de curiosités où tu te questionnais sur certains aspects de la culture coréenne. Pourquoi y a-t-il le logo d'une entreprise de cola sur le drapeau coréen ? Pourquoi les Coréens que je rencontre ont toujours les mêmes... trois noms de famille (Kim, Lee, Park) ?
Si tu es un adepte des K-Drama (Squid Game ?), ton intérêt pour la Corée est peut-être encore plus marqué ! Que signifie Corée, pourquoi les Coréens raffolent-ils autant de kimchi ? Ou bien, si tu as déjà visité la Corée, peut-être te reste-t-il des questions sans réponse, comme pourquoi on vieillit d'un an (ou de deux ans) dès notre arrivée en Corée ? Pourquoi tant d'histoires dans ces tente-restaurant (pojangmacha)? Pourquoi la K-pop est-elle si populaire (mention honorable: Que peut bien vouloir dire Gangnam Style) ?
Bien sûr, si tu as une question de traduction, il te suffit de rechercher le mot dans un dictionnaire ou sur la dernière appli. Mais qu'en est-il des fois où tu ne t'y retrouves plus à cause des différences de cultures et où il n'y a personne pour éclairer ta lanterne ? Tu pourrais t'en sortir sur un coup de chance mais sans garantie de faire les bonnes suppositions la fois suivante. Et surtout ce serait manquer une occasion précieuse d'en apprendre davantage sur la culture coréenne !
D'où que tu sois, qui que tu sois - un fan de K-pop/K-drama, un expat résidant en Corée, un étudiant tout juste retenu pour partir étudier en Corée (félicitations !) - ce livre t'aidera à bien comprendre la Corée et te fera apprécier sa culture. Il compte plus de 350 thèmes essentiels et questions récurrentes sélectionnés dans 27 catégories couvrant pratiquement tous les aspects de la culture coréenne.
Après avoir lu le dernier chapitre, la Corée n'aura plus aucun secret pour toi, même dans ses moindres détails ! (Par exemple, pourquoi les Coréens adorent-ils s'asseoir par terre ? Pourquoi est-ce impoli de servir un verre avec une seule main ?)
Et surtout, la prochaine fois que tu verras un K-drama, un film coréen ou un clip de K-pop et ses paroles, tu y trouveras beaucoup plus de sens et c'est sans doute le meilleur avantage! Et puis quand tu rencontreras un ami coréen, épate-le avec tes connaissances en lui expliquant pourquoi tu as frappé le goulot de la bouteille avec une technique de Taekwondo pour l'ouvrir (n'oublie pas de pivoter sur le côté quand tu bois avec quelqu'un de plus âgé).
Ah, et si on te complimente pour ton petit visage, tu sauras qu'il faut répondre Merci. Bien, si on commençait ce livre avec un exemple de la culture Ppali Ppali dépêche-toi et commence à lire !
