Zaki Laïdi shows here that Obama has two objectives: freeing America from the shadow of 9/11 that made it see the world in a Manichean light, and rehabilitating the American leadership's image in the world on the basis of the following principle - admitting that America can no longer single-handedly solve global problems while refusing to let these same problems be solved without her. Obama certainly has not abandoned America's position as the world's leading power. But he also knows that, in order to maintain this position, they have to work more closely with the world to avoid the risk of becoming isolated from it.
