This is a collection of memoirs and sketches by Awetis Aharonean, an Armenian painter and writer who lived in the Ottoman Empire in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The book offers a vivid and poignant account of Aharonean's experiences as a witness to the massacres and forced deportations of the Armenian population during the First World War. It also features dozens of his original drawings and paintings, which capture the beauty and tragedy of the Armenian cultural heritage and the landscapes of Anatolia and the Caucasus.
