The Gay Cockade is a novel written by Temple Bailey and published in 1921. Set in the aftermath of World War I, the story follows the life of a young woman named Nancy Page who becomes a nurse in France during the war. While there, she falls in love with a soldier named David Ware, but their romance is cut short when he is killed in action. After the war, Nancy returns to the United States and begins a new life as a socialite in Washington, D.C. She becomes engaged to a wealthy man named John Haverford, but her heart still aches for David. When she meets a mysterious man named Pierre, who bears a striking resemblance to David, she is torn between her feelings for him and her loyalty to John. As Nancy navigates the complexities of love and society, she must also confront the realities of post-war America, including the rise of the Ku Klux Klan and the struggle for women's suffrage. The Gay Cockade is a poignant and romantic tale that captures the spirit of the Jazz Age and the aftermath of the Great War.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
