Chronik, Übers. Von K.F.W. Lanz, Erster theil is a historical chronicle by Ramón Muntaner, offering a vivid account of events primarily from the 13th and early 14th centuries. Originally written in Catalan, this German translation allows access to Muntaner's detailed perspectives on the Crown of Aragon's military and political endeavors. Muntaner, himself a participant in many of the events he describes, provides firsthand insights into the reigns of Kings Peter III, Alfonso III, and James II.
The chronicle is notable for its vibrant narrative style and its detailed depictions of battles, sieges, and diplomatic encounters, making it an invaluable resource for scholars and enthusiasts of medieval history. It provides a distinctly Catalan perspective on broader European events, including the Crusades and conflicts in the Mediterranean. This first volume covers a significant portion of Muntaner's chronicle, laying the foundation for understanding the complex dynamics of the period.
