Diese Studie verfolgt das Ziel, die konzeptuelle Einheit zwischen Mircea Eliades wissenschaftlichen Schriften und seiner fantastischen Prosa zu erforschen. Sie reagiert damit auf Eliades eigene Forderung, seine literarischen Werke im Zusammenhang mit seinem akademischen Schaffen zu betrachten. Durch die Analyse beider Ausdrucksformen - der wissenschaftlichen und der fiktionalen - wurde eine kohärente philosophische und hermeneutische Struktur sichtbar, die Eliades gesamtem Werk zugrunde liegt.
Drei zentrale Beiträge sind dabei hervorgetreten:
1. Die dreiteilige Struktur des Bewusstseins
2. Eine neue Klassifikation von Eliades fantastischer Prosa
3. Die Gleichwertigkeit religiöser Phänomene
Dieses Buch stellt die erste vollständige deutsche Übersetzung des ursprünglich 2015 im rumänischen Verlag Eikon erschienenen Werks dar, das unter dem Titel Mircea Eliade. La marginea labirintului: corespondente între opera științifică și proza fantastică veröffentlicht wurde (Mircea Eliade. Am Rande des Labyrinths: Entsprechungen zwischen dem wissenschaftlichen Werk und der fantastischen Prosa).
