Orvieto was once one of the most important and oldest cities of the Etruscan Twelve Cities League (L. Volsinii, Etruscan Velsuna or Velzna). This volume not only concentrates on the Roman and Etruscan eras, but also sheds light on the Middle Ages and Modernity with its important monuments, as Orvieto today is renowned for its cathedrals and the wine of the region, among other things. This collection consists of eleven contributions by the editors and several Italian authors, who have all extensively studied the history, art, and the monuments of this unique city encompassing three millennia. They treat the history, topography, monuments, and art of Orvieto as well as the region around Lake Bolsena, from the 9th century B.C. to today (with a focus on Etruscan-Roman antiquity, of course).
