Fünf Jahre nach dem Ende der Finanzkrise im Jahr 2008 sind die Meinungen über die künftige Entwicklung der Weltwirtschaft immer noch geteilt. War die quantitative Lockerung in den USA wirksam oder nicht? Ist das Überschie en der Weltwährung ein Segen oder ein Fluch? Werden die Finanzmärkte sicherer oder gefährlicher? Ist der Wirtschaftsaufschwung stetig oder nur von kurzer Dauer? Kurzum: Bewegt sich die Welt allmählich von der letzten Rezession weg, oder beschleunigt sie ihr Abgleiten in die nächste Krise?
Alle Aktivitäten, die die Menschheit jemals unternommen hat, drehten sich immer um zwei grundlegende Aufgaben, nämlich die Schaffung von Wohlstand und die Verteilung von Wohlstand, von dem alle anderen Aktivitäten abgeleitet sind. Ob bei der Schaffung von Reichtum oder bei der Verteilung von Reichtum, die Gier der Menschen war von Anfang an die Quelle ihrer letzten Energie. Das Gute in der Gier treibt den technologischen Fortschritt an, der Energie spart, die Zeit verkürzt, die Intensität verringert und das Vergnügen steigert, was zu einer kontinuierlichen Steigerung der Produktivität und zu einer wohlhabenderen Vermögensbildung führt. Die unersättliche Gier der Habsucht kann jedoch auch zu Tricksereien, Spekulationen, Betrug, schnellen Gewinnen und Extravaganz verleiten, die wiederum den Produktivitätsfortschritt abwürgen, zu einer verzerrten Verteilung des Wohlstands führen und die wirtschaftliche Vitalität der Gesellschaft verringern.
