Rebecca is a self-absorbed and courageous 19 year old girl who finds refuge in the Goth culture. She gets into a fall out with her parents and curses them and then the following day they get involved in a fatal car accident in which they die. Rebecca then feels guilty of her parents' deaths and tries to bring them back from the dead. She finds a book of rituals in the local book store that can bring back souls from the dead. After completing one of the rituals Rebecca is sucked into the underworld and meets the soul gatherer who gives her a choice, she can locate and capture a thousand souls to bring back her parents or live with the dead people forever as a punishment for not fully completing the ritual. Rebecca must work as a soul capturer to save her life and bring back her parents from the grips of death or fail and be trapped in the ghost land for eternity. Rebecca decides to take on the task and soon finds herself dealing with ghosts, rituals and life between dead or alive.
