The story suggests greed, abandonment, and the ruin that comes from not placating the Halloween spirits. The Shadow of the Cutty Black Sow transports us to 1959 when young David must undergo the ancient Celtic rituals to save his family from hell-black Black Sow. Boy's bravery and legend are intertwined in the tale, and the result reveals the outstretched hand of tradition and terror on which legend stands From spooky houses and phantom ships to ancient monstrosities and haunted relics, Donn's stories stir primal terror fueled by cultural legend.
Lost legacies and cursed histories haunt us in the book's pages, unseen monsters that haunt on Halloween night in Technicolor. As the stories go on, characters are forced to fight their most primitive phobias, from fighting off supernatural hallucinations, demons, or their own demented minds, in order to uncover the true nature of the holiday as a byproduct of our own suppressed phobias and the devil within all of us.
