Follow the journey of Helena's Golden Cross, one of the first Christian icons created. The trip spans over one thousand five hundred years. The trek follows a circuitous route from Rome, Constantinople, Jerusalem, Cypress, Spain, and California. The icon traveled through some of the most important periods in history. Helena's Golden Cross was worshipped by Christians, Byzantines, Crusaders, Knights Templar, emperors, kings, pilgrims, priests, and New World explorers. It was considered a good luck charm by the Muslims. It had its own religious order, which vowed to protect the icon unto death. Miracles, prayers, and good luck were attributed to the icon.

King Phillip of Spain gave the icon to Junipero Serra before Serra departed for California. California's most infamous bandit stole Helena's Golden Cross in a stagecoach robbery. Today, Helena's Golden Cross lies buried somewhere between San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente, California-a valuable treasure awaiting discovery.
