Hereward the Wake is a collection of novels, poems, and letters by Charles Kingsley, chronicling the life of the legendary Anglo-Saxon hero, Hereward the Wake. The book is divided into three parts, each focusing on a different aspect of Hereward's life. The first part, the novel Hereward the Wake, tells the story of Hereward's rebellion against William the Conqueror and his struggle to defend his homeland against the invading Normans. The second part, a collection of poems, celebrates Hereward's bravery and heroism, and explores the themes of love, loyalty, and freedom. The final part of the book is a collection of letters written by Kingsley, in which he reflects on the historical significance of Hereward and his enduring legacy. Through its vivid depictions of battles, romance, and political intrigue, Hereward the Wake offers a thrilling and insightful portrait of one of England's most beloved heroes.1898. Charles Kingsley was an English clergyman and novelist. He was the founding member of the Christian Socialist movement and was known for his controversy with Cardinal Newman. He was a chaplain to Queen Victoria, a rector at Eversley, Hampshire and was sympathetic to the Chartists. Found in this volume is Hereward the Wake, the hero of our youth, who reappears at last in a guise fitted for a modern drawing room. Thomas Wright first disinterred him, long ago, when scarcely a hand or foot of him was left standing out from beneath the dust of ages. Wright taught Kingsley how to furbish his rusty harness, botch his bursten saddle, and send him forth once more, upon the ghost of his gallant mare. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
