The History of Joseph Andrews is a novel written by Henry Fielding in 1742. The book follows the adventures of Joseph Andrews, a young footman who is determined to remain virtuous despite the temptations he faces. Joseph is dismissed from his job after rejecting the advances of his employer's wife, and he sets out on a journey to return home to his sweetheart, Fanny. Along the way, he encounters a variety of colorful characters, including a highwayman, a squire, and a clergyman. The novel is a satirical take on the popular genre of the time, the sentimental novel, and is notable for its use of irony and humor. The History of Joseph Andrews is considered a precursor to Fielding's more famous novel, Tom Jones, and is a classic example of 18th-century English literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
