How The French Took Algiers: Or The Janissary's Slave is a historical fiction novel written by W.O. Von Horn and published in 1881. The book follows the story of a young Frenchman named Henri de Marsay who is captured by Algerian pirates and sold into slavery. He is then bought by a Janissary, a member of the Ottoman Empire's elite military force, and taken to Algiers. There, Henri becomes embroiled in political intrigue and espionage as the French plan to take control of Algiers. The novel explores themes of imperialism, slavery, and the clash of cultures between the French and the Ottomans. It provides a vivid portrayal of life in Algiers during the 19th century and the events leading up to the French colonization of Algeria. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
