Hunt travels to a neighboring ranch to buy hay for his ranch and ends up with a surprising offer. A man arrives in Denver to take Charles Crawford's prize stallion to New York, and with Charles in Philadelphia, Hunt is forced to step in to protect Charles's livestock. Trouble arises and Hunt is forced to place them under arrest until Charles arrives to solve the problem. A man comes to Denver to kill Hunt. He puts the blame for the death of his father and brother on Hunt. Hunt is surprised to find the man is the sheriff of Lawrence, Kansas, and they strike up a friendship. After completing the sale of his father's ranch he returns to Denver, and unknown to Hunt, the man plans to kill Hunt and the other U.S. Deputy Marshals involved in the killing of his father and brother while wearing a temporary U.S. Deputy Marshal badge. The train is robbed 30 miles from Denver, and a passenger is killed. Hunt leads his men as they travel the rough terrain and travel through mountain passes and tree covered valleys to find the men responsible. Hunt's men travel to Trinidad and after a shootout they arrest five men and are faced with a 5 day horseback ride with the five prisoners to Amarillo, Texas. A five-day trek across the barren wilderness of the southwest. Jewels must travel to Briggsdale with the sister of Oliver Patterson, a man that had been murdered three weeks prior. Lucille Patterson doesn't take long to anger many people, including Hunt, and Jewels is forced to take her on the journey to show her where her brother was murdered, and where he was buried. Jewels returns to Denver and is a changed man, he is in love. Jewels and Lucille quickly fall in love, and Jewels is offered the job as U.S. Marshal of San Francisco. Jewels and Lucille plan to be married when Jewels returns from training. The vengeful man that is wearing the temporary U.S. Deputy Marshal badge plans to end their happiness by ambushing Jewels and his bride as they are kissing goodbye at the railroad station. Hunt and his deputies realize what the vengeful man has planned and rushes to the depot, but they are too late. Shots are heard before they can reach the station.
