Immensee is a novella written by the German author Theodor Storm. Originally published in 1849, the book tells the story of two childhood friends, Reinhardt and Elisabeth, who fall in love as adults. Reinhardt visits Elisabeth at her family's estate, Immensee, and the two begin a romantic relationship. However, their happiness is short-lived as Reinhardt's ambition and career take him away from Elisabeth. He eventually marries another woman, but his memories of Elisabeth and Immensee continue to haunt him. The novella explores themes of love, memory, and the power of the past to shape the present. Storm's vivid descriptions of the natural landscape and the characters' inner thoughts and emotions make Immensee a timeless classic of German literature.Straight opposite, in the middle of all this forest verdure, there lay a patch of white, like driven snow. This was an expanse of blossoming fruit-trees, and out of them, up on the high lake shore, rose the manor-house, shining white, with tiles of red. A stork flew up from the chimney, and circled slowly above the waters. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
