Matt tries to run away-until one of the giants wants to be his friend and shows him that there's nothing to be scared of after all.In the Land of Giants was inspired by the author's work with adults who have autism and other special needs. This book celebrates people of all abilities, including those who are blind, deaf, nonverbal, speak with sign language, or use a wheelchair. What Readers Are SayingI cannot help be impressed by the way Christine E. Schulze has discussed the issue of young children first encountering folks with disabilities. Being profoundly Deaf and legally blind, I know first-hand how intimidated and afraid children can be when they first see me signing with my husband...I salute Christine's efforts in bringing awareness to the younger generations that different does not necessarily mean scary, and that even those of us who cannot hear, see or walk can turn out to be as much of a treasured friend as people who can. I enjoyed In the Land of Giants and recommend it to all young readers, in order to remove the stigma from what it is to be Deaf or disabled.

In the Land of Giants is a well written book about adults with disabilities. I really enjoyed how the author takes the reader on this adventure with the main character to understand the giants. The illustrations really added to the story...Although I am a teenager reading a childrens book, I really enjoyed it none the less! Well done Christine E. Schulze for all your hard work on this book, and I encourage you to keep writing your diverse fantasy books.

In The Land of Giants is a book for children that also makes adults think. It is simply written and doesn't overtly point out differences in people (other than the fact the main character is in a land of giants and is a bit frightened by them), just takes them as they are. I recommend this book to children between four and nine.
