Indian Legends of Vancouver Island is a collection of traditional stories and myths from the indigenous people of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The book was compiled and edited by Alfred Carmichael, a member of the Tseshaht First Nation, who collected these stories from his elders and other members of the community. The legends in this book cover a range of topics, from creation myths to tales of animal spirits and supernatural beings. The stories are told in a simple and direct style, and are accompanied by illustrations by renowned First Nations artist, Henry Hunt. This book provides a fascinating insight into the rich cultural heritage of the indigenous people of Vancouver Island, and is a valuable resource for anyone interested in First Nations history and mythology. The daughters of the Village Island chief took with them food to last for three whole suns. They started early, for many miles of paddling lay between them and the Toquaht shore. At length they reached the beach, and hiding their canoe beneath a giant spruce, they followed where a little trail beckoned them on and up the mountain side. For hours they climbed, wending their way through lonely, silent woods, the twittering wren the only life they saw or heard. At times they lost the trail, as it was overgrown with fern and berry bush. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
