As such, it was time for teacher Queen Theia to organise the student mermaid's field trip to planet Earth. With principles of non-interference with a planet's evolution and planet Earth's ever-changing land surfaces, the mermaids are challenged in creating their field trip report. Mermaids Kimberella and Vorticella's field trip locations are on the south pole on two separate land masses. The constant movement of the two separate land masses approaching each other to eventually collide to form the Island of Ireland bring the mermaids on an exciting adventure, journeying through separating and colliding continents, land submergence, and desert conditions with an eventual destination above the equator. The story and text are suitable for boys and girls who are young readers aged 6 to 11 years. Helpful illustrations make this book suitable as a read-to-book for children aged under 6 years. An outline map at the back of the book helps the young reader identify the location of the geographical landmarks in Ireland mentioned in the story text.
