Patsy McCarthy idolized her aunt, Kathryn Bettendahl; she believed Kathryn would one day lead a movie studio. Kathryn's daughters, Sally and Amber, adored Patsy. Darrell guided Patsy without Patsy's knowledge, stopped communicating with Patsy, provided financial resources, directed her toward USC film, monitored her progress. Kathryn expected Patsy to be the best studio head ever. Kathryn emphasized Patsy making her own choices. Patsy might decide against Hollywood. Kathryn couldn't knock down barriers for Patsy; planning would require Darrell creating a new studio.
