Jennie Gerhardt is a novel written by Theodore Dreiser that tells the story of a young and beautiful woman named Jennie Gerhardt who is faced with numerous challenges in life. Jennie is the daughter of a poor carriage driver and her mother dies when she is still young. She is then forced to work as a servant in a wealthy family where she falls in love with the family's son, Lester Kane. However, their love is not meant to be as Lester's father disapproves of their relationship due to Jennie's lower social status. Lester is then sent away to Europe and Jennie is left alone and pregnant. She decides to move to New York City where she meets another man, Senator Brander, who falls in love with her and helps her raise her child.Jennie's life takes another turn when Lester returns to the United States and they rekindle their love. However, their happiness is short-lived as Lester's father threatens to disinherit him if he marries Jennie. In the end, Jennie sacrifices her own happiness for the sake of Lester's future and marries Senator Brander instead. The novel explores themes such as love, class, and the struggles faced by women in society. It is a poignant story that showcases the harsh realities of life and the difficult choices that people have to make. This Is A New Release Of The Original 1911 Edition. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
