The Kingis Quair is a narrative poem written by James I, King of Scotland, during his captivity in England in the early 15th century. The poem tells the story of the king's dream, in which he falls in love with a beautiful lady and is guided by a group of birds to her castle. The lady becomes his muse and inspires him to write poetry, and he vows to serve her forever. The poem is written in Middle Scots and is considered one of the most important works of early Scottish literature. The Kingis Quair was first published in 1783 and has since been reprinted numerous times, including in this 1886 edition. This edition includes an introduction by the editor, W.W.
