In a world where sin eaters chase down criminals and consume their souls, the young and confident sin eater, Damien, believes deeply in his mission. He roams the land with other sin-eaters, tracking down those who have committed heinous acts and condemning them to eternal punishment. If any sin eater takes a soul unjustly, they forfeit their own lives, a risk that Damien accepts without hesitation. He views it as a small price to rid the world of evil. However, some monsters hide in plain sight, blurring the lines between good and evil. When Damien is ordered to take the soul of his ally, Kael, for the murder of a town official, he faces an inner conflict. Kael insists that the man is corrupt and deserves death, but Damien is torn between duty and doubt. Despite his reservations, Damien carries out the sentence on Kael. The experience shakes him to his core and sows seeds of uncertainty about the righteousness of his cause. Haunted by guilt and questioning everything he once believed, he begins to see flaws in the system he serves. Sin eaters claim to be instruments of justice, but Damien starts to wonder if they are truly different from the monsters they hunt. His crisis deepens when he discovers evidence suggesting that Kael may have been set up by powerful figures within their order. Betrayed and disillusioned, Damien struggles to reconcile his role as a sin eater with his growing conviction that they may be serving a corrupt purpose.
