In the nineteenth century, the Kujawa and Putkamer families left their Prussian homelands, escaping political and economic oppression. Each of the families reached for new opportunities in the great beyond of America. The Kujawa family were homesteaders in Krakow Township near Posen, Michigan. The Putkamer family settled in Alpena, Michigan. The tale of their journey is remarkable. The story speaks of hopes and hardships faced in America and how they win a better future despite possessing little resources. The story richly informs us, enabling us to pass their immigration tale down through the next generations.
